Founded in 2005 Salentec was the first spin off company of Salento University. Salentec is a dynamic company operating for over ten years in the field of materials engineering for the development and transfer of technical and industrial innovations.

Salentec is also active in the production and commercialization of prototypes and first series of technical ceramics for functional, structural and thermal-structural applications, such as aluminium oxide, zirconium oxide, fused silica and several types of oxide and non-oxide based ceramic matrix composites (CMC), with relevant applications in the energy sector, in the biomedical field. The company exhibits a strong expertise in the design and production of customized machineries and equipment, offering tailored solutions for high-temperature and cryogenic treatments, in stand-alone configuration or as integrated facility with already existing apparatus.

Salentec is also highly skilled in the surface engineering field; it operates as consultant for 3M and several paint factories, and has developed thin film coating with selective spectral behaviour (solar absorber, high energy efficiency paints).

Together with ENEL, Italcementi Group and ILVA, Salentec is studying solutions for the valorisation and the re-use of the by-products of power plants and metallurgy industry in the sustainable building field.

Thanks to a long lasting cooperation and over than ten years of consultancies activites with EMA (Europea Microfusioni Aerospaziali), Salentec earned strong competencies about the refractories sacrificial ceramics employed in the process of investement casting of Nickel superalloys, developing a propertary silica-based feedstock ready to mould for CIM (Ceramic Injection Moulding) manufacturing of complex shaped ceramic cores.

In 2015 Salentec joined the POEMA consortium with the aim to become an European player as manufacturer of ceramic cores for investment casting.

Recently Salentec has invested on two injection moulding lines, with the acquisition of extrusion and injection equipement, and started the production of technopolymer medical devices and ceramic jewels. In the short-mid term the company expects to furtherly expand its offer in other market oriented applications (such as the watchmaking field) as well as in high tech field (bio inert arthroprostheses).
